An exhibition about computer code, contemporary narratives, digital art, minimalism and conceptual art. It is exploring the different discourses in the social science (politics, programming or music) to understand the evolution of language, from Wittgenstein to Casey Reas. It also expresses the logical purpose of language based in intentionality for the development, progress and evolution of this human science based in linguistics and semiotics. In this way, databases and programming codes are the most sophisticated languages in evolution. As L. Wittgenstein concluded, the best way to express an idea, rather than from paragraph, is the sentence. Here begins a way to think through propositions, closely related to minimalism, where the phrase as a unitary and essential expression refers to the essence of computing and programming language. Participating artists: Konrad Becker, Jorn Ebner, Rupert Goldsworhty, Brion Gysin, Karl Holmqvist, Fran Ilich, Carlos katastrofsky, Manu Luksch & Mukul Patel, Joseph Moore, Laure Provoust. From 17 to 24 March 2001. In Canning, C / Sant Pau 58, bajos. Barcelona 08001. curated by Laura P.GraciaFrom LANGUAGE to CODE ascii and binary language computation . Ascii code The American Standard Code for Information Interchange (acronym: ASCII; pronounced /ˈæski/, ASS-kee)[1] is a character-encoding scheme based on the ordering of the English alphabet. ASCII codes represent text in computers, communications equipment, and other devices that use text. Most modern character-encoding schemes are based on ASCII, though they support many more characters than did ASCII. ASCII includes definitions for 128 characters: 33 are non-printing control characters (now mostly obsolete) that affect how text and space is processed;[6] 94 are printable characters, and the space is considered an invisible graphic.[7] The most commonly used character encoding on the World Wide Web was US-ASCII[8] until December 2007, when it was surpassed by UTF-8.[9][10][11 The American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) was developed under the auspices of a committee of the American Standards Association, called the X3 committee, by its X3.2 (later X3L2) subcommittee, and later by that subcommittee's X3.2.4 working group. The ASA became the United States of America Standards Institute or USASI[12] and ultimately the American National Standards Institute. Binary code The Alphabet in Binary Code You can find out the binary representation of numbers, punctuation marks and other characters from the “Ascii Conversion Table” on the Cornell Center for Materials Research website.MICHAEL KRAG AKA CARLOS KATASTROSKYtitle: landscapes year: 2007 transfer prints on paper In order to guarantee the data transfer between two or more computers and to be able to identify the receivers explicitly, the network nodes of the Internet consist of so called IP-addresses. The seemingly accidental arrangement of this combination of numbers and the resulting – partly even extremely conflicting – virtual neighbourhoods are examined in landscapes (2007). In the course of this further development of the two Internet based works neighbourhood research (2004) and area research (2004), IP-addresses were brought to paper by means of printing transfer, in order to provide the viewers with an extract of the virtual in real space. The artist works on the net as cartographic concept and copies the context, in which websites like Google, CNN or Wikipedia are anchored. Translated into the gallery space, the viewer eventually finds him- or herself vis-à-vis works on paper se aesthetics remind of conceptual, text-based strategies of design. In this way, the context of the shown IP-addresses is also reflected formally: in a landscape open downwards and upwards, consisting of numbers, letters and signs.exhibited at: 05/12 – 07/12 2008 interference mikrogalleriet, Copenhagen, Denmark . 06/10-19/10 2007 stimulus/response, Projektraum Sonnensegel, Vienna, Austria

AMBIENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS. MANU LUKSCH & MUKUL PATEL.  love, piracy, and the office of religious weblog expansion, 2009 Mixed media (performance, installation, online project, artists’ book). Text based on an interview with Ali Alizadeh by Mukul Patel, February 2008 Website coding: Elke Michlmayr Supported by: Arts Council England; BMUKK Austria Love, Piracy, and the Office of Religious Weblog Expansion is the transcript of an interview with Iranian philosopher Ali Alizadeh about the history of censorship in Iran from the 1979 Revolution to the age of Google. This text is censored draconically: of the philosopher’s 1,500 word-long responses, only one word is left legible, and it is a different one that survives in each copy of the edition of 1,500. Owners of the book can undermine the censor’s efforts by sharing the unique word of text left visible in each copy. Once a word has been submitted to the website, it is permanently revealed online. The entire text will be rendered visible only if all book owners share their words online. http://ambienttv.net/love

JOSEPH MOORE, Permutation Software Generating Poems of Brion Gysin.   Documentation of Eight Poems by Brion Gysin realized by Joseph Moore. video 4.32min.. http://joseph-moore.com/  new York based artist Joseph Moore wrote the software “Permutations” for the currently running exhibition Brion Gysin: Dream Machine on display at The New Museum for Contemporary Art in New York. The Exhibition is a retrospective of the work of the painter, performer, poet, and writer Brion Gysin (born 1916, Taplow, UK–died 1986, Paris). Working simultaneously in a variety of mediums, Gysin was an irrepressible inventor, serial collaborator, and subversive spirit whose considerable innovations continue to influence musicians and writers, as well as visual and new media artists today. The “Permutations” software by Joseph Moore is a “version” of the program developed by Ian Sommerville and Gysin in 1960 to permute poems. Moore has attempted to create a realization of the work that is sensitive to the original and its process. At the same time, it is a new version, a collaboration done in the spirit of an artist whose work provides a critique of conventional notions of authorship. Moore believes that it is also in the spirit of the work to share copies of it and made his “Permutations” Software avilable to download from Github. The concept and artistic process of this project is fascinating.

During the last years he has also made . a number of performances on the tours and shows Make it Happen has arranged, he also used to be a member of Chihuahua. Karl Holmqvist has previously released 21 poems on CD-rom. (…) Finishing a Masterpiece and Getting it on the Shelves (how to get a book published) Writing a book is a monumental task in itself. The process is long, drawn out and grueling. Even if you thoroughly enjoy writing and writing on the same subject for an extended period of time, you will no doubt be exhausted by the writing of a book. Getting that book published, however, will take even more time and effort than producing the thing in the first place. Are you thinking about writing a book? Have you already written one and now are just wondering how to get a book published? If you are, read on. Here are a few tips on how to get from the starting line to triumphantly crossing the finish line. Writing that Book When starting out writing your book, before you are ready to consider how to get a book published, you may already feel daunted. To write a successful book you need to start out with some original thought. You probably have plenty of originality, but you may have trouble getting your ideas into a coherent flow of information that will be digestible by the general public. The first step is to create a book skeleton. You need to organize your thoughts into a progression of chapters. If your book will be non-fiction, start with a table of contents. (…) THANKS TO HOLLYBUSH GARDENS GALLERY, LONDON

RUPERT GOLDSWORTHY consuming//Terror : Images of the Baader-Meinhof. Verlag Dr Muller, 2010. Rupert Goldsworthy is a British artist, curator and writer who became renowned in the mid-Nineties and early 2000s for running an artist-run gallery project in Berlin and then in New York. Goldsworthy’s own art addresses taboos (political and emotional) using post-Pop Methodology. His concerns include the Cold War, colonial history and the iconography of Seventies radicalism. Mark Stewart writes on the book: “CONSUMING//TERROR: Images of the Baader-Meinhof” traces the visual history of the Red Army Faction (RAF) an “urban guerilla cell” active in West Germany in the 1970s-80s and its relations both to the history of Left-wing iconography and the genre of radical chic. The study explores the way in which the RAF, like Che, have seeped into popular culture, fashion, and high art, moving through contexts where they become floating signifiers for rebellion without clear political or historical referent. “Goldsworthy documents the resistance of the cell. Terror repackaged and on sale again.” THANKS TO RITTER/ZAMET, LONDON
